Transportation Cabinet to host Kentucky’s
first oversize/overweight hauling forum
Tailored to educate specialized carriers
FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation
Cabinet (KYTC) today announced plans for an educational forum on
oversize/overweight hauling – the first of its kind in Kentucky.
The forum, scheduled May 8 at the cabinet’s
central office building in Frankfort, will be held in the evening
– beginning at 5 p.m. EDT – to accommodate business
schedules.
The forum is hosted by the cabinet’s Division of Motor Carriers,
which issued more than 100,000 trip permits for specialized carriers
in 2007.
“This will be a great opportunity for anyone
who works with oversized or overweight loads to become more familiar
with all the departments in the Transportation Cabinet that deal
with specialized carriers,” said Transportation Secretary
Joe Prather. “We also want to offer some insight into all
the processes that are involved with providing service to that portion
of the trucking industry.”
The forum will cover all the procedures for obtaining
annual and single-trip permits. Safety measures will be addressed,
and participants can bring themselves up to date on Kentucky laws
that apply to oversized loads.
“All participants will have the opportunity
to interact with professionals in the Transportation Cabinet who
can make their jobs as carriers a lot easier,” said Commissioner
of Vehicle Regulation Dan Glass. “Everyone from farmers to
manufactured housing dealers will find something beneficial at this
event.”
The training has been tailored to the interests of
specialized haulers such as mobile home movers, house movers, heavy
equipment haulers, and house boat haulers. Fleet managers, dispatchers,
escort services, terminal managers and operation managers also are
encouraged to attend.
There is no registration fee and registrations can
be faxed to 502/564-6403. Walk-ins are welcome. Those arriving early
will be offered a tour of the Transportation Cabinet building, beginning
at 4:15 p.m. EDT.
