KYTC outlines goals for ensuring disadvantaged
businesses represented fairly in cabinet’s contract work
Public review sought for plan
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 1, 2008) — The Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is seeking public feedback on proposed
goals for increasing the involvement of disadvantaged businesses
in cabinet projects. The goals, along with methodology for meeting
the goals, are available online at http://transportation.ky.gov/OBOD/.
The KYTC Office for Civil Rights and Small Business
Development, which oversees the cabinet’s Disadvantaged Business
Enterprise (DBE) program, hosted public forums June 3-10 in each
of the cabinet’s 12 districts to explain the proposed goals
and how they were established.
“The forums gave the public an opportunity to
participate in a dialogue about how we ensure disadvantaged businesses
are represented fairly when cabinet projects are awarded,”
said Transportation Secretary Joe Prather. “Decisions regarding
our disadvantaged business program have a broad effect, and our
staff attempts to clarify everything about the process through public
meetings and these proposed goals.”
The goals and methodology will be available for viewing
on the cabinet’s Website and in the Office for Civil Rights
and Small Business Development until July 25. Written comments,
accepted for 15 days afterward, may be submitted to:
